Small Business Ideas for teens

By Kay Riter

As a teenager, you may be constantly looking for ways to make money. Nothing in life is free. We need to work to get money in order to buy the things we want. Still, as a teenager, it's hard to get the money we need. First of all, its hard to get a job without experience and its nearly impossible for you if you are too young. Also, even when you do get a job, you can only work part-time while you are in school and the pay is never what you would like to be.

When most teens want to start making money, they look for a job. It's not always easy to find a job. Even if they do find a job, it's not usually a job they love or that pays much. Another way to make money is to start a business. Some teens have been very successful with starting a side business.

You don't have to make a multimillion dollar corporation in order to be successful with your own business. It can be small and stay small, and you can still make money. The most obvious ideas for a business for teenagers are babysitting, lawn mowing, and others similar to these.

You may not look at each of these ideas as a 'business', but it is. When you mow lawns, you charge them a fee for the service you are offering. This is a business. You are being paid for the goods or services you offer.

Keep it professional and you will build more credibility in your business. The more credible you are the more word will get around about how great your business is. The greatest way to get a small business booming is to go viral. Get everyone talking about you and how great your service is. People will do this automatically if you do an exceptional job every time. Stay professional by coming up with a name for your business, a logo, fliers, and anything else that will make you a great business.

Other ideas for business are selling candy, snacks, and/or drinks in busy neighborhoods and parks. When people are outside, they get hot, thirsty, and hungry, and you can be there to provide what they need. Also, you could try selling these things to your friends in school, but make sure you don't get into trouble.

Do you do very well in school? Even if you just do very well in one or two subjects that many other people have trouble in, come up with a tutoring service. Check with your school to see if it's okay to advertise it to your classmates first. You can charge by the hour or half hour, or you can charge a discounted rate for tutoring a small group of 3 or 4. Do some research and studying to come up with excellent tutoring techniques. If you help people get good grades, you'll have a higher demand for customers.

Some people would rather get a job and work for wages. Others are natural entrepreneurs and will make more money with a small business and have much more fun. Be creative and give it a try. - 15254
